Typical specialist fees in Scottsdale
These are typical fees at a board-certified endodontic specialty office in the Scottsdale / Phoenix metro. Specialty fees run roughly 15–25% above general-dentist fees because the procedure includes the surgical microscope, CBCT 3D imaging, and specialty-trained doctor time.
| Procedure | Low | High | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anterior root canal (front tooth, 1 canal) | $1,100 | $1,300 | Simplest case |
| Premolar root canal (1–2 canals) | $1,300 | $1,500 | Moderate complexity |
| Molar root canal (3–4 canals) | $1,500 | $1,800 | Most complex; longer chair time |
| Endodontic retreatment | $1,400 | $2,200 | Removing prior fill + redoing |
| Apicoectomy (microsurgery) | $1,400 | $2,500 | Surgical procedure at root tip |
| Permanent crown (placed by your GP) | $1,200 | $1,800 | Separate fee from your dentist |
What your final cost depends on
- Tooth. Front teeth have one canal; molars have three or four. More canals means more chair time and a higher fee.
- Complexity. Calcified canals, unusual anatomy, or retreatment of a previous root canal raises the fee.
- Imaging. CBCT 3D imaging is standard in our office, often bundled into the procedure fee. A standalone CBCT runs $250–$400.
- Sedation. Optional. Nitrous is $75–$150, oral sedation $200–$400, IV sedation $400–$800.
- The crown. The permanent crown that follows is placed by your general dentist and is a separate fee — typically $1,200–$1,800.
How PPO insurance typically covers it
Most PPO plans cover root canal therapy at 50–80% after deductible. The variables: your annual maximum (typically $1,000–$2,500), how much of it has already been used this year, and whether the plan classifies the tooth as "basic" or "major" services. We verify all of this before your appointment and provide a written estimate showing what you will likely owe.
Without insurance
We accept HSA and FSA cards (pay with pre-tax dollars), all major credit cards, and CareCredit deferred-interest financing. See our financing page for the full set of options.
Why specialist costs less in the long run
Modern endodontic treatment with a microscope and CBCT has a 90–95% long-term success rate at 10 years. A small fraction fail and need retreatment or extraction — but extractions plus implants run $4,000–$6,000 and require multiple visits over months. The specialist fee up front buys a higher first-time success rate and usually a lower total cost over the life of the tooth.
